Tunxi Ancient Street 屯溪老街
Tunxi Ancient Street, named one of China's top ten historical and cultural
streets in 2009, is found at the foot of the Yellow Mountains, or downtown
Huangshan City, Anhui Province. Tunxi Ancient Street is a 1.5 km long alley
lined with beautiful Hui architecture dating back to Ming (1368-1644) and Qing
(1644-1911) eras. The two or three-story buildings include storefronts with red
lacquered ancient shop signs, workshops creating traditional crafts and snacks
as well as quaint residences. Typical of Anhui architecture, the stone-brick and
wooden structures with exquisite woodcarvings also have ornamented roof tiles
with charming eaves.
